Salem’s amazing food scene continues to grow with some terrific new shops and restaurants (see recent Salem News article.) November 3-7 & 10-14 

For 10 days participating Salem restaurants offer either a two-course prix-fixe dinner menu for $18, or a three-course prix-fixe dinner menu for $28 (or both.)  It’s a great chance to enjoy a fantastic meal at that Salem restaurant you’ve always wanted to try, or to revisit some much-loved places.  For more information click here


Vegan Tour Nov. 17th

With special guest Kristin Lejeunesse of Will Travel for Vegan Food

Salem Food Tours is thrilled to announce our upcoming Vegan Food Tour* on Sunday November 17th.  This Tour will feature all-vegan tastings at some of Salem’s best shops and restaurants. Joining us will be special guest Kristin Lajeunesse, author and vegan travel expert of Will Travel for Vegan Food. Besides being a featured speaker at veggie festivals, Kristin has also launched the first and only vegan wedding resource website, Rose Pedals Vegan Weddings.  Kristin will be giving guests information on the terrific vegan options that are happening across the U.S. We can’t wait to show all our guests some of the wonderful options across Salem!

This year in the historic Derby Waterfront area

Salem Food Tours is excited to be a part of this year’s Christmas in Salem. The annual event features about a dozen historic Salem homes dressed for the holidays. If you’ve never experienced Christmas in Salem, we can’t recommend this amazing stroll enough (an annual tradition in our family!)  Besides the Candlelight Tours making the Friday opening night special, Salem Food Tours will be offering mini spice tours that will include tastings at Salem Spice. Presented by Salem Wine Imports. Friday, November 15th, 2013 at the Salem Hawthorne Hotel from 6 to 9pm. Featuring over 90 different wines, Hors d’Oeuvres, and some light music. Stop by Salem Wine to purchase tickets ($35 per person.)  And stop by Salem Wine Imports and Tuesday nights at 6.30pm every week for their free tasting – a great way to experience new wines and stock up for the holidays!

Salem Winter Market

Kicking off Thursday November 7th: The Salem Winter Market will be held inside at Old Town Hall, running every Thursday 3 – 6pm from November 7th – December 19th. “The Winter Market is a fantastic opportunity to support local farms and artisans through the holiday season,” states Kylie Sullivan, manager of Salem Main Streets and organizer of the market. “We’re very excited to showcase so many summer farmers’ market favorites as well as some new vendors in this historic space.” The Winter Market will include produce from local farms, pasture-fed meat, spices, pickles, soup, baked goods, artisan soap, jewelry, wreaths, and more. All items are grown or produced in New England.  It’s a great way to keep your fall table delicious and LOCAL! 🙂

New items such as jumbo stuffed Portobello mushroom (available vegan or meat) and a few new pizzas including the Audrey II (cheese, arugula, roasted red peppers, shaved parmesean and balsamic fig glaze) at Flying Saucer Pizza Company 


At Caffe Graziani slowly simmered Osso Buco, pumpkin gnocchi, and wild mushroom risotto are just some of the specials this autumn season.


At The Grapevine, Sopa de Pescado – Tomato-Saffron Broth, Local Cod, Clams & Shrimp, served with Rustic Bread from A&J King so you can soak up all of those wonderful savory flavors!


… and speaking of A&J King, did you know their new BAKING BY HAND cookbook is out?? You can read more about it on their beautiful new website. Hmmm… great gift idea for the holidays!


Fall dinner on the water at Finz includes an encrusted salmon with sugar and spice, pecan wood smoked risotto, roasted asparagus, and whole grain mustard sauce. And of course, fresh oysters are a great way to start.
